We hoped to use the upper trailhead at the end of FS road 11S31A to save about 3 miles of hiking, but access is blocked by deadfall around road 11S31C, so we had to start at the lower trailhead. The trail was fine-ish to Crown Valley, there are maybe 30-50 fallen logs across the trail over this stretch, but it's easy to get around them. Beyond there the trail is intermittently overtaken with 100'+ stretches of difficult-to-navigate deadfall and miserable patches of west slope chaparral. It wasn't all horrible, but the section through Deer Meadow and from the NPS boundary to the saddle were really bad. The only tip I can offer is to try and stick to the trail because the trail bed is defined and if you really lose it, you'll spend some time swimming through brush. Fortunately, the off trail travel was quite easy, even pleasant, especially if you drop slightly farther than most GPS tracks to the creek bed and then do a traversing climb below Point 7719. We were glad to have a rope and light rack for the short crux section, though there is some decent tat you could yank on if you were feeling brave. Hell of a move for a 3.0 rating to be honest. One each of 0.4-1, two or three slings (the tree is a bit too big to take a double, so you need a quad or single+double for it), and a 30m is all we needed. We did a bit better navigating on the return, but it took a while, especially on tired legs. Glad to get this one done. Fantastic view from  the top, and such a remote area.
