This is not a failure, I’m literally so proud of myself for getting this far. I was 5 minutes late to a self monitored cutoff point (would have for sure missed the next cut off anyways even if I’d been 5 min early). My John Cappis race ended at Ice Lake at 6:05PM having climbed 10 out of thirteen peaks and on the heels of the most terrifying first glissade ever. Vermillion Peak was spooky and I’m so glad I got the opportunity to climb it this way. I also am relieved I did not get taken out with one of the many flying rocks pitching down Beatie. A truly harrowing climb, actually. Really technical and slow terrain out of CP2, new course for the Cappis this year, I’m honestly floored I made it as far as I did. Then I had about a 5mi exit hike to CP3 past gorgeous waterfalls and wild flowers and marmots galore. This is not your typical ultra.
