This one had it all! Beautiful off trail hidden spots, lots of steep grass, an absolutely wild launch, amazing early morning thermals, Chinook flybys, and paratroopers flying overhead!  🤯

Finally made it back to GD and it turned out to be a relatively quick hike in the end! Barely managed to launch my full size directly from the summit. Laid out on the ridgeline, brought the wing up in a light puff, had two steps to decide go/no go and then hucked myself off a cornice into the abyss. Yeehaw! 

Was able to fly the ridge back towards the LZ and made a few turns in some early morning thermals along the way, coming in 1500' over the LZ. 

The helicopter I had been hearing intermittently all morning made a surprise reappearance as I was about 2/3 of the way to the LZ. Turned out to be a big ol Chinook that flew past at eye level just across the valley (they had the door open and I waved lol) before climbing out and circling back around me! 

About 3 minutes after I landed the helicopter mission became clear - 7 paratroopers floating down from above! Wish I would have launched 5 minutes later, that would have been a fun encounter. 😅 They ended up landing about a half mile further down the valley. So yeah, cool day!
