C2C in under 9 hours, started at 5:45 AM, returned to the trailhead by 2:30 PM. This trail seriously has everything: well-maintained forest sections, beautiful alpine lakes, massive boulder fields, a challenging Class 3 scramble, and truly jaw-dropping views from the summit.
The walk past Lewis and Wing Lakes is peaceful and scenic, especially at sunrise. Once past Wing Lake, the scree-filled gully is the toughest section loose, steep, and slow going. Trekking poles were a huge help here.
Just take it slow and steady, and you'll get through it.
The final scramble to the summit is exposed but manageable for confident scramblers. And the 360° views at the top? Unreal. North Cascades in all their
glory.
If you're up for a big day with diverse terrain and a summit that feels truly earned, Black Peak is absolutely worth every step.
