Back in the day, Faulkner Canyon Rd was a wagon road between silver city and fort selden. Back when New Mexico was a territory Billie the kid and his boys had a hideout here in Black Hill they used as a stopover. Went to go find it but my headlamp died 0.8 miles in. The silhouette of the hill was striking in the dark and I knew when I’d reached it but I couldn’t find the hideout spot itself. There’s a rock that shelters it from the wind with a good vantage of the road below, some char marks from a fire, and lastly a wall where Billie the kid and his boys carved their names. I’ll have to come back in the daytime so I can find that but it’s supposed to be really hard to read these days

Went all along one side and then summited the hill but I didn’t see that nestled spot I was looking for
