Toiyabe Dome Traverse (5 11ers)

Entertaining day but one of my least favorite peaks ever. Took a shortcut and got some fun wet shoe waterfall 5th class down climbing 🤪. 3 ranked 11ers, 2 unranked, and a peaky 10er snuck in there - no reports of anyone doing all 3 in a day, and I now see why. Summit register from 1989!

Could have driven the car further but then there’d be no more paint. Trail bushwhack for 4.5 mile then ridge bushwhack for 3,000 ft. Bypassed the ranked 11er to tag Mahogany (shortest and unranked 11er in NV), then back to Mahogany East…saved about 500 ft of vert. 

Then easy (and surprisingly short) ridge traverse to 10,9something then Toiyabe Dome West. Loose gravel climb up to the ridge to Toiyabe Dome and then easy scramble to Toiyabe Dome East. Some said it was a class 3, and it was not, and I was disappointed. But oh boy did I not know what was coming. 

Left TD East at 5:30p and had the genius idea of a shortcut. No bushwhack in the dark, but I’d have to walk 5 miles on the road in the plains in the dark. That sounded better. 

Dropped into Broad Canyon. It was not broad in some spots. And I entered the jungle of Nevada:

Stage 1: 1,000+ ft of easy grass awesomeness. 
Stage 2: thorns and itchy plants and willows and can’t see anything. Legs are dripping blood for the mountain lions to smell. 
Stage 3: lull you into comfortability. Dropped down into the stream and rock hopped for about 2,000 ft down. Absolutely ate it one time and fell in a pool. Then the canyon got narrow and had to purposely walk in the water.
Stage 4: waterfall. The topo map flattened, but because it was a 200ft waterfall drop. Completely cliffed out. No way down it. No way left. Up right 300 ft and then I found a few cracks to down climb. Don’t know my 5s, but it was harder than 5.4. One of the scariest things I’ve done in a while. 
Stage 5: best single track all day and road ahhhhh.
Stage 6: the road ended up being 5 miles. My mom FaceTimed me and berated me for having too much fun. 
Stage 7: warm Gatorade
