Strong winds, medium rain, some lightning from 12-2am, spend most of the time propping up/holding down the tent frame. Cloudy sunrise. Fire getting somewhat contained, consider sending it. Send it. Sunset yellow blazes to city of Shasta (20+ mi walk, couldn’t get a hitch), he’s gonna bag Shasta(!) and head to Sac for a few weeks, meet up at Tahoe. Smoke picking up. LAT, VLAT on the scene! Dual rotor copter! Castle Crags SP, sick ridgeline, fire in valley just below, looks v close to trail 10mi up. Another copter, they’re getting real up in there. Fire is all west of the river, let’s go! Personal airshow - 500ft VLAT flyby, 200ft copter flyby! Cobra lily. Weird signs with cursivey text, in km. Planes take a break, dozers and chainsaws across the valley don’t. Lost a pole tip. Big descent, poison oak, hot, lots of lizards. Walked 2ft away from a rattlesnake, whoops. Flies swarming head, few strides to sorta get rid of them. Haven’t seen a soul for 20 miles. Dip in creek. Gravel road to Castella. Chevron pricey, glad I got too much from DG. Walk to SP campsite, it’s empty, all locked up, consider going phone/watchless for the next 90 but I just barely find an outlet, charge up takes awhile, meet a friendly kitty who convinces me to hike out in the morning
