Up early, say bye to cat, gravel road, sign saying SP is closed due to fire (first sign I saw, whoops). I-5 underpass, RR crossing, Sacramento River! Trail register packed with names, 20 sobos yesterday!! See first gray squirrel in weeks. Talk to hiker making up fire closure miles from ‘23 thru, thwarted by SV fire, getting real big, 0% contained. Blue blaze past 4mi switchback, get sick views of Shasta, CCSP, fire. 9 by 9. Flowy forest miles. Trail magic, candy and cold pops! Met nobos Seeker and Huta. Brown blaze, meet another nobo, dip, early lunch at a nice creek. Another very friendly nobo, share fire intel. Huge trees, Douglas firs? Huge acorns. Poison oak up to 4k. See French Connexion duo from Day 23. Hike through valley with v blue cascades, eat protein bar that tastes like cake. Big ascent. Sports cap mashed potatoes. Farthest day yet, felt good besides for some blisters and chafing. Find campsite at Deer Creek, dip, stream white noise is much nicer than last night’s I-5 traffic and train horns.
